The cable lay Vetag 8 was delivered in 2013 as a pontoon by Hanjin HHI Shipyard, Subic Bay , and in 2014 was specially equipped as a cable lay for shallow water areas by Damen Shiprepair Harlingen , Netherlands. With a length of around 65 m, it has an astonishing width of around 30 m and a very shallow maximum draft of 1.4 m. The GenSets were installed on board on the main deck, the emergency / port diesel under construction, the winches, cranes and the John Deere 6068 HF 275 emergency diesel.
The deckhouse offers space for 6 nautical crew members. If more accommodation is required, additional living containers for 18 passengers can be set up on the deckhouse. Therefore the vehicle was built according to the SPS code (Special Purpose Ship).
The Vetag 8 , like the cable lay Nostag 10, is a very flexible work ship, especially for laying power cables, as both the necessary machines for power generation and for the auxiliary operation (winches, anchors, fire extinguishing systems) are brought on board depending on the task and area of work and on the main deck can be mounted.
The Vetag 8 has the home port Brake , is managed by Sleepdienst H. Schramm BV (10409326), has been classified as "Pontoon, equipped for Cable Laying" by the classification society DNV GL and is 50% owned by von Essen Holding GmbH & Co. KG and 50% of Tagu Tiefbau GmbH Unterweser.
