Vettor Pisani (born June 14, 1934 in Ischia , Italy ; † August 22, 2011 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor , performance artist and conceptual artist and, as an object artist, also a representative of Arte Povera .

life and work

Vettor Pisani began studying architecture in Naples , but gave up in the late 1950s to devote himself, among other things, to studying the Rosicrucians . From 1960 to 1965 he dealt with a conceptual analysis of the work of Robert Motherwell and from 1965 to 1970 with the work of Marcel Duchamp .

In 1970 he moved to Rome and exhibited his work for the first time in 1970 in the exhibition Maschile, femminile e androgino: Incesto e cannibalismo in Marcel Duchamp in Rome in the Galeria Salita , in which he for example psychoanalytically influenced objects such as " Chocolate Cast of Suzanne Duchamp "(1965) showed.

Vettor Pisani was awarded the Premio Pino Pascali in 1970 and began with his participation in the Arte Povera movement and with Michelangelo Pistoletto .

In 1972 he took part in Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Individual Mythologies : Self-Presentation - Performances - Activities - Changes section with the performance " L'Eroe da Camera ", which focused on a naked, chained woman (his sister) .

In his art he drew parallels between artistic and alchemical activities, and described parallels between Marcel Duchamp , Yves Klein and Joseph Beuys, for example in “ The rabbit is not like Joseph Beuys ” (1975).

His works and performances are scenographies with mythological and symbolic elements. He performed with rabbits and naked people, provoked and made people think.

Vettor Pisani was represented with a contribution to the Venice Biennale in 1976 and also took part in the 1978, 1984, 1986, 1990 and 1993 biennials and the Quadriennale di Roma in 1986 and 1992. In 1982 a large retrospective took place in the Museum Folkwang in Essen , which was shown in 1990 in Valencia and in 1992 in the gallery Civica d'Arte Contemporanea in Trento .
