Victor Chan
Victor CHAN Wai-kwong ( Chinese 陳偉光 / 陈伟光 , Pinyin Chén Wěiguāng , Jyutping Can 4 Wai 5 gwong 1 , * 1959 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese composer and conductor .
Life
Chan received his Bachelor of Arts from Hong Kong China University in 1983 . In 1984 he obtained a Licentiate from the Royal Schools of Music and a Licentiate in Music from Trinity College of Music in London. In 1988 the Ph.D. at the University of York . Since 1989 he has been a guest conductor with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 1991 he has been a cultural advisor to the Hong Kong community. In 1993 he became vice chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild . From 1993 to 1996 he was a producer at Radio Television Hong Kong . From 1996 to 1997 he conducted research in Sydney . From 1997 to 2000 he was composer in residence with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2001 he has been a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received u. a. Commissions from the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France . His works have been performed at festivals of the Asian Composers League , Tribune internationale des compositeurs of UNESCO and Tanglewood Music Festival.
