Victor Schulte

Victor Schulte (born September 22, 1887 in Antwerp , † March 26, 1972 in Hanover ) was a German landscape painter in the style of post-expressionism .

Life

He attended grammar school in Aachen with Walter Hasenclever and Ewald Mataré . During his studies at the Düsseldorf Academy he became friends with August Macke . In 1906 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Paul Sérusier and Alexej von Jawlensky .

In Beuron he had friendly contact with the painter monk Willibrord Verkade .

In 1907 he was in Paris , where he met Wilhelm Uhde , Rudolf Levy , Robert Delaunay , Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse in the Café du Dôme . 1908 to 1909 followed a study visit to Rome together with Reinhold Kündig , Eduard Bick , Paul Osswald (1883–1952) and Hermann Huber (1888–1967) . After the First World War he worked as a stage painter at the municipal theaters in Hanover for many years . In 1948 he restored the vault paintings of the Jakobikirche in Hannover-Kirchrode .

In addition to Hermann Huber, he was close friends with Otto Meyer-Amden . One of his students was the painter and opera singer Harro Heinz Theodor Fromme .

His grandson is the jazz musician Jochen Pöhlert-Schulte .

Victor-Schulte-Strasse
