Vierkirchenblick (Hanover)
The Vierkirchenblick in Hanover is a location in front of the Marktkirche , from which visitors can see the four steeples of the main Evangelical Lutheran churches of the Lower Saxony state capital. The point of view at Hanns-Lilje-Platz at the corner of Kramerstraße and Kniehauerstraße is marked by a stone cross in the pavement . From here, in addition to the tower of the Marktkirche, the towers of the Aegidienkirche , the Kreuzkirche and that of the Neustädter Church built in the Calenberger Neustadt can be seen. The symmetrical cross is part of a circle of different colored cobblestones , over which the red thread runs .
The archivist Helmut Zimmermann wrote about two crosses in 1984; as “the only place in the city center from which you can see all four church towers of the old and new town. The older of the two crosses was one of the seven landmarks that the traveling journeymen had to know in order to prove their presence in Hanover ”.
