Daniel von Mukede

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daniel von Mukede († probably between 1230 and 1234) was a knight and canon in Brandenburg an der Havel . It was mentioned in writing in several documents over a period of about twenty years and was particularly noticeable through extensive donations to the cathedral chapter of Brandenburg Cathedral and its hospital .

Live and act

The date of birth of Daniel von Mukede is not known. The place Mukede was a later desolate village about eight kilometers west of Pritzerbes , an important residence of the Brandenburg bishop . The village was in what is now the municipality of Milower Land in what is now the municipality of Marquede .

The first known written mention of Daniel von Mukede comes from September 24, 1215. In a document from the Brandenburg bishop Balduin he was referred to as "Daniel, miles de Mukethe". He bequeathed six hooves of land in the village of Marzahne to the cathedral chapter of Brandenburg “for the maintenance of an eternal light” in the cathedral to “authorize” his and his wife's memory. The donation, which was supposed to take effect after death, was apparently intended for the purchase of candles for the church.

A count Siegfried von Osterburg and Altenhausen held the village of Hohenferchesar as an important borrower of the Prince-Bishop of Brandenburg . His tenant in this village was again knight Daniel von Mukede. According to a document from Bishop Siegfried from 1220, "Danyel, miles de Mukede" signed four Hufen land in Hohenferchesar to the hospital of the Brandenburg Cathedral. Mukede determined that the donation would take effect after his and his wife “Berchte” died. He laid down lifelong usufruct for himself and his wife . Ten shillings of the donation are to be used annually to the cathedral chapter to celebrate the memory of his and his wife and parents. Furthermore, a wispel of grain should be donated to the poor on Memorial Day . The remaining waste was to be used for the hospital .

Under the same conditions, according to a document from Bishop Gernand, "Danielis militis de Mukeda" signed four more Hufen land and a meadow in Pritzerbe to the hospital on April 4, 1225 . Furthermore, in 1226, the village of Gapel was given the estate, Lehnschulzenamt, the bailiwick and fish weirs for the purchase of candles for the cathedral by Bishop Gernand. "Daniel miles de Mukede" was named as a witness in the deed of donation. According to a document dated February 4, 1227 issued in Gernand's name, von Mukede transferred three hooves in the village of Fohrde ("Verden") and several grain elevations to the hospital. This was also the first known written mention of Fohrde.

At that time, the knight Daniel von Mukede apparently lived in the episcopal Pritzerbe Castle . Daniel had a brother knight Theoderic or Thideric, who was mentioned several times as mayor (" prefectus ") in Pritzerbe. After Daniel's wife died, in the document of 1227 "Berte" was already described as deceased, he devoted himself more to the hospital of the cathedral. On January 6, 1230 he was appointed coadjutor of the hospital master Heinrich von Klöden, whereby he was also given the choice, instead of moving to Brandenburg to the chapter, to stay in Pritzerbe as administrator of the lands. The latter would have been associated with a partial loss of voting rights in the chapter for the canon. Furthermore, three of the six Hufen Landes in Marzahne, which were assigned to the cathedral chapter in 1215, were dedicated to the hospital for Mukede's lifetime and, in addition, the right to mast in Marzahne's forests was granted.

As coadjutor, the canon had a new house built or the old one extended for the hospital on the cathedral island of Brandenburg or the cathedral castle. The pen bore the costs. In a document dated January 10, 1234, Bishop Gernand transferred a forest area to the hospital for the further construction of the project started by " dilecti nobis Danielis". On February 27, 1234 the hospital or cathedral chapter in a papal document by Gregory IX. the possession of his goods previously belonging to "Daniel miles " is confirmed. This was also the last known contemporary mention.
