Vijay Anand

Vijay Anand (born January 22, 1934 in Gurdaspur , Punjab , † February 23, 2004 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ) was an Indian film director. He is the younger brother of Chetan and Dev Anand .

After a bachelor's degree from Bombay University , he wrote the screenplay for the film Taxi Driver (1954) directed by Chetan Anand, with Dev Anand in the lead role. Vijay Anand made his directorial debut in Bollywood in 1957. One of his greatest successes, artistically and commercially, was Guide (1965) with Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman based on a novel by RK Narayan . Vijay Anand received the Filmfare Award / Best Director for this. The following films Teesri Manzil (1966 with Shammi Kapoor ), Jewel Thief (1967, with Vyjayantimala and Ashok Kumar ) and Tere Mere Sapne (1971) were also successful.
