Vila Ruiva is a municipality ( Freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district of Cuba (Portugal) , with an area of ​​20.1 km² and 467 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This results in a population density of 23.2 inh / km².

history

Roman buildings and finds prove the existence of the place in the times of the province of Lusitania . No significant finds have been made from the Moorish period. The place received its first town charter ( Foral ) in the 13th century. After the Portuguese Revolution of 1383 , Vila Ruiva was one of the places that Nuno Álvares Pereira received. In 1512 King Manuel I renewed the city charter . Vila Ruiva was an independent district ( concelho ) until 1836 , only to belong to the Cuba district since 1839 .

Culture and sights

Among the numerous listed buildings of the municipality are a Roman dam and a Roman bridge, in addition to a number of fountains and sacred buildings .

With the Cappas Isectozoo, there is a museum and laboratory mainly of state-building insects.
