Villa Candelaria (also: Bella Vista Candelaria ) is a village in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Villa Candelaria is the third largest town in the canton Colcha "K" in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Colcha "K" in the province of Nor Lípez . The place is located at the exit of a narrow river valley at an altitude of 3724  m on the south bank of the salt lake Salar de Uyuni .

Villa Candelaria is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera de Lípez in the southeast. The region's climate is typical of the time of day , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the seasons.

Significant precipitation falls only in the months of January to March (see climate diagram Colcha "K"), the remaining nine months of the year are arid , the total precipitation in the region does not reach 100 mm per year. Colcha "K" is located at a distance of 356 kilometers by road southwest of Potosí , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Potosí the asphalted highway Ruta 5 leads in a south-westerly direction 198 kilometers to Uyuni , from there further to the south-west and after 61 kilometers it reaches the bridge over the Río Grande de Lípez . Behind the bridge, Ruta 5 branches off in a north-westerly direction and after 36 kilometers reaches the village of Río Grande on the railway line from Uyuni to Avaroa on the Chilean border and on to Antofagasta . The road follows the railway line in a south-westerly direction and after another 30 kilometers reaches Julaca . Directly behind Julaca, an unpaved salt track branches off in a north-westerly direction and continues for another 19 kilometers via Mañica to Colcha "K" and on via Villa Candelaria to Chuvica .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Colcha "K" 90 percent of the inhabitants speak the Quechua language ( 2001 ).
