The Villa Piovene was built in the immediate vicinity of Villa Godi in Lugo di Vicenza in the province of Vicenza , Veneto . The authorship of Andrea Palladio is not entirely certain, but it is probable (draft approx. 1539). According to Ulmer, this is particularly indicated by the protruding pronaos with six Ionic columns that support the tympanum .

Trevisan describes three phases of construction: The basic building, a much more modest villa compared to the one that exists today, was completed in 1541; a possible participation of Palladio is assumed for this. In a second construction phase, the villa was expanded and received a stage-like temple vestibule dated 1587. The third construction phase fell in the first half of the 18th century (gate, large outside staircase, staircase, utility wing on the side). The design comes from Francesco Muttoni. The villa was not completed until 1740. The garden was also redesigned later.

The building was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, along with other Palladian villas .
