Villa Angarano is a mansion designed by Andrea Palladio in 1548 in Bassano del Grappa in the province of Vicenza , Veneto . However, only the wing structures were built according to plans by the famous architect. The main building was designed by the architect Baldassare Longhena in the 17th century .

The building was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, along with other Palladian villas .

history

The middle part of Baldassare Longhena

Little has been realized of the original villa designed by Palladio for his close friend Giacomo Angarano . Only the wing-like, laterally arranged farm buildings towards the central manor house were implemented. Documents show that a building inhabited by Angarano was already on the property before Palladio's planning, which is why the farm buildings were started.

It is not entirely clear how the middle section should be designed according to Palladio's original plans. Even before the work could begin, the financial situation of Angarano, who was wealthy at the start of construction, deteriorated, so that it was left with the existing manor house. Eventually Angarano was forced to sell the property to the Venetian Giovanni Formenti . The present state is due to plans by Baldassare Longhena from the second half of the 17th century.
