Vincenc Brandl (born April 5, 1834 in Staré Brno , Moravia , † December 26, 1901 in Brno ) was a Moravian state archivist, historian and source editor.

Life

Vincenc Brandl, a child of poor parents, first attended a German school and grammar school in Brno . He continued to study at the Standesakademie until 1852, then for a year at the University of Vienna and from 1856 to 1857 at the Department of History and Philology. He then taught at the German grammar school in Brno, from 1857 to 1861 at the German secondary school in Altbrünn and then worked as a state archivist until 1899. In the legislative period from 1865 to 1868 Brandl was a member of the Moravian state parliament.

Brandl was a member of the Czech Institution of Sciences and the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts. On December 26, 1887, he founded the Brno Museum Association.

Works

Brandl published books on the legal history of the time before the Counter Reformation in Moravia, edited the writings of Charles the Elder of Zerotein and wrote bibliographies on Karel Jaromír Erben , Josef Dobrovský and Pavel Jozef Šafárik . He was also an advocate of the authenticity of the Grünberger manuscript .
