Vincenzo Manzella (born November 16, 1942 in Casteldaccia , Province of Palermo , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Cefalù .

biography

Vincenzo Manzella studied Catholic theology at the Archbishop's Seminary in Palermo . He continued his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he received his doctorate in canon law and at the Angelicum in theology.

On July 1, 1967, Vincenzo Manzella was ordained a priest . From 1968 to 1970 he was secretary to Cardinal Francesco Carpino and from 1970 to 1978 to Cardinal Salvatore Pappalardo . He was then from 1978 to 1986 archpriest of the Chiesa Madre (main church) of Termini Imerese . In 1986 he was appointed Rector of the Archbishop's Seminary in Palermo.

On April 30, 1991, Vincenzo Manzella was appointed Bishop of Caltagirone by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination donated him on 29 July of the same year Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo in the Cathedral of Palermo ; Co-consecrators were Vittorio Luigi Mondello and Giuseppe Costanzo .

On September 17th, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Cefalù. At the same time he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the diocese for the time of the vacancy of the diocese of Caltagirone .

In the Sicilian Bishops' Conference Vincenzo Manzella was delegate for social affairs, labor, law and peace.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 16, 2018.
