Viorel Tănase (born October 7, 1970 in Galați ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played a total of 457 games in the Romanian Divizia A and the Israeli Ligat ha'Al .
Player career
Tănase's career began with O beielul Galați in his hometown in 1988 when he joined the squad of the first team that played in Divizia A. After relegation in 1989, he developed into a regular player and returned with his club in the summer of 1991 to the House of Lords. There he contributed ten goals to relegation in 1992 . In the summer of 1993 he was given the opportunity to move to the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest , but returned to Galați in early 1994. After the club had fought relegation in the following years, he and his team were able to assert themselves in the top flight from the 1996/97 season and qualify for the UEFA Cup .
After Tănase was able to score ten goals again in the 1998/99 season , Maccabi Netanja brought him to Israel. After two years, he returned to Oțelul in the summer of 2001, but was unable to build on his previous scoring threat. After a year at FC Argeş Piteşti in the 2003/04 season , he played for three years for Galați before ending his active career in the summer of 2007.
National team
Tănase played a game for the Romanian national team when he was used on February 16, 1994 in the friendly against South Korea for a half before he was replaced by Constantin Gâlcă .
Coaching career
In October 2009 Tănase became Dunărea Galați's head coach in Liga II . He held this post until January 2012, when league rival Farul Constanța signed him. However, his engagement with Farul lasted only a few months before he was released in April 2012. In the summer of 2012 he took over a second division team with FCM Bacău again, but was given the opportunity to succeed Dorinel Munteanu as head coach of his former club Oțelul Galați in August 2012 . Oțelul was in danger of relegation and in January 2013 the ways parted again. Tănase then hired again at FCM Bacau. He was released again in September 2014. In September 2016 he took over Cetate Deva in League III , but left the club again in April 2017. Since June 2017 he has been Nicolae Dică's assistant coach at FCSB Bucharest .
