Virtue was an English power and new wave of British heavy metal band from Oxford , formed in 1981 and disbanded in 1988.

history

The band was formed in 1981 by brothers Matt (electric guitar) and Tudor Sheldon (vocals) to emulate their heavy metal role models Iron Maiden and Judas Priest . In early 1984 Adrian Metcalfe was added as a further guitarist, while Brian Reader played the bass and Ian Lewington the drums. A first demo cassette called Virtue Defenders followed . Since the result was unsatisfactory for the band, the group almost split up. However, there was only one new line-up, so that the group now consisted of the Sheldon brothers, the guitarist Boz Beast, the bassist Darren Prothero and the drummer Simon Walters. This was followed by some local appearances across Oxfordshire . In 1985 the band recorded a single at Matinee Music in Reading , which was released on Other Records under the name We Stand to Fight . The single was played on the radio and sent to various labels. Among them was the major label EMI , which showed interest; however, the band could not reach a contract. Since the first edition was sold out after a short time, a second edition was pressed in the following year. Towards the end of 1986, the band prepared the EP Fools Gold , which was to be released via Hatchet Records . Due to some problems, however, the release on the label could not take place, so that the EP was only released as a demo on cassette in 1987. In the period that followed, other appearances followed and the line-up of the band changed. Due to the line-up changes, the band broke up in 1988. Bob Duffy, who was the band's new bass player before the breakup, later joined Lou Taylor's Tour De Force . Matt Sheldon would later found the band The Shock together with Boz Beast and a few other members . Duffy would later join the band as well. In 2013, No Remorse Records released the EP We Stand to Fight , which contained re-mastered versions of the single We Stand to Fight and the demo Fools Gold , as well as an interview and photos from 2013.

style

The band belonged to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and also processed more power metal influences. In terms of sound, the group is comparable to bands such as Tokyo Blade , Iron Maiden and Fifth Angel .
