VisMed, short for "Visual Media", is the Faculty of Visual Media Design (expired curriculum) / Digital Art (current curriculum) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (the applied ).

history

The term has existed since the institute was founded, at that time still known as the “master class for visual media design”. Since 1984 Peter Weibel has been professor for visual media design at the institution called "University of Applied Arts" at the time, which was renamed "University of Applied Arts Vienna" in 1998/1999.

From 1999 to 2001 the class was headed by Karel Dudesek , and since 2002 by Professor (first visiting professor) Thomas Fürstner. During the study reform of 2004, the class was renamed Digital Art . Ruth Schnell has been leading the course since autumn 2011 .

The task areas are to be described with the convergence of the media photography , film , video and computer . The formal grammar of the media, history and theory of media art , game engines , net art , interactive installations , interface design as well as radio and television formats are specific topics that are dealt with. A strong focus is placed on testing artistic production methods and collaborative work on the Internet.

In addition to media theory , many areas are taught that can be classified in the field of “analog and digital food”: The term “analog and digital food” includes works or projects that mean the opposite of the information society . Here a visual, acoustic and body-related pleasure should arise, which works and goes on similar to the process of food intake.
