On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Vitry-lès-Cluny was united with the neighboring municipalities of Donzy-le-National , Massy and La Vineuse to form the Commune nouvelle La Vineuse sur Fregande. It belonged to the arrondissement of Mâcon and was part of the canton of Cluny .
