history

According to an inheritance register from the 16th century, farmers from the surrounding places ( Beinum , Groß Mahner, Kniestedt and Salzgitter ) had forest and farmland from the property of the Goslar cathedral monastery in the later settlement of Vosspaß . Various members of a “Voss” family were given as tenants . The surrounding area was later referred to as being located on the "Fuchsberg" or the "Fuchsbach"; this name was probably derived from the owner families "Voss". The settlement was only opened up after the Thirty Years' War , after the marshy valley of the Warne was drained and the military road from Seesen to Braunschweig , which until then ran over the heights, was relocated into the valley.

In the church registers there are first entries about the residents at the end of the 17th century. At that time the place was still called Roden or Rhoden , which points to the history of deforestation. Often the addition "behind Groß Mahner" was given.

The place name "Vosspaß" appears in the church records at the end of the 18th century. Already in 1689 a restaurant "Vosskrug" was mentioned, it belonged to a family Voss and was on the old Heerstraße. In a chronicle written by the von Kniestedt family in 1792, the von Kniestedt family's holdings of forests and farmland on the Vossberg are given as 153 ¼ acres. Population registers from the mid-19th century show seven houses and around 45 residents for this settlement. Until the founding of today's town of Salzgitter on April 1, 1942, the settlement belonged to Groß Mahner, after which it was assigned to the current district of Salzgitter-Bad. In 2016, the settlement included eleven residential buildings and three craft businesses.

Vosspaß ore loading

When the ore mining in the Salzgitter area was set up near Vosspaß, the Hermann-Göring-Werke built a loading station for the ores from the Ilseder Hütte from the Georg-Friedrich mine near Dörnten / Liebenburg . So far the ores were on a narrow-gauge railway Ilseder cottage with 785 mm gauge by Schroeder tunnel transported and Voßpaß on standard gauge -vans the Reich works, later, the Salzgitter transport company , reloaded and from there via Gebhardshagen and Lengede to the blast furnace plant in Ilsede furthered. The transfer station was completed in 1940 and operated until April 1968. After the closure, the narrow-gauge line of the Ilseder Hütte was dismantled. The buildings were preserved, but fell into disrepair and were demolished around 2013/14.
