Vodafone Chances was a scholarship program of the Vodafone Foundation Germany . It was started in 2006 and supports students with a migration background at a total of six private and twelve public partner universities in Germany and Great Britain . The last 60 or so scholarship holders and alumni have a migration background from a total of 20 countries. The program expired in November 2015 and no further scholarship holders will be accepted.

The aim of the scholarship was to make a contribution to integration and social advancement through education. The scholarship was specifically aimed at applicants with a migration background who had successfully applied for a place at one of the partner universities. The new aim of the scholarship program is to maintain the alumni network .
Partner universities
In addition to the six private universities, public universities have also been partners of the foundation for the first time since the 2014/15 winter semester . Students could choose from a broader range of eligible courses (for example engineering , political science and law ). The scholarship program has partnerships with the following universities:

Admission criteria and application process
Regardless of nationality , residence status and type of university entrance qualification , only first-year students who met the following admission criteria could apply:
- The applicant's economic circumstances do not allow for independent financing of studies at the partner university ( BAföG entitlement).
- excellent academic performance and excellent general education
- social and social commitment and above-average commitment and sense of purpose outside of school
- The applicant is aware of his special responsibility with regard to the role and function as an educational ambassador and multiplier . Dealing with migration and integration is a central focus of his commitment
- The applicant is ready to actively get involved in Rock Your Life or an equivalent project in the future
- The applicant meets all entry requirements of the partner university
Services
Financial support
The scholarship holder received a fixed monthly amount of € 1,000 regardless of the university and subject. In Great Britain it was € 1,500 a month.
Non-material support
Every scholarship holder was assigned a mentor at the start of their studies . This should support the scholarship holder as a confidante with his questions and problems regarding the studies and later the entry into the professional world with his experience.
During the course of their studies, the Vodafone Foundation invited the scholarship holders to workshops, seminars and educational trips. These spanned a wide range of topics from the areas of culture , social engagement , personality development and social entrepreneurship . Such events often took place in cooperation with other projects of the Vodafone Foundation or other partners, such as the Klassik Stiftung Weimar . There was also an annual meeting of scholarship holders. By networking the Vodafone Foundation with partners from business , it also helped the scholarship holders to find internships if required .
As part of a commitment to ROCK YOUR LIFE! or an equivalent project, the opportunity as an educational ambassador to make a valuable social contribution to the successful integration of young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds .

In 2010, the Vodafone Chances Scholarship Program was recognized as a "Selected Location" by the German government's initiative " Germany - Land of Ideas ". Up to 2013 ten applicants were accepted each year and only studies at private universities were funded. The scholarship included all tuition fees and other benefits. This made the scholarship the most valuable in Germany. No new scholarship holders have been accepted since November 2015.
