history

1927-1948

On November 8, 1927, the sole proprietorship Otto Vogel, paving and road construction, in the Schützenstr. 55 founded in Lahr / Black Forest . In 1938 a gravel works was built in Ottenheim am Rhein and in 1939 Otto Vogel acquired the area of ​​the Clemens & Stegen machine factory in Lahr-Dinglingen and relocated the previous operations to the existing buildings. Land was later purchased and structural extensions made. Today the administration of the group of companies has its headquarters in the Dinglinger Hauptstrasse. In 1945 the Otto Vogel company, like all construction companies in Germany, began to rebuild. In 1948, the Ottenheim gravel plant was rebuilt in the “Rappenköpfle” district, west of the access road to the Rhine. The Ottenheim plant is still located there today. The plant received a siding and a ship loading facility.

1953-1961

In 1953 a gravel extraction point was opened in the Allmannsweier district . In 1954 the “Rebio” porphyry works was put into operation at Schönberg near Lahr and Otto Vogel introduced a new road construction method based on a recommendation to the responsible authorities. He recommended that the substructure of the Kurzell-Allmannsweier test track be designed with a 15 cm thick bitumen base layer made of gravel sand (0/30 mm) in three layers. The Offenburg road construction authority then commissioned a 1 km test route to be laid out. The results of the testing phase exceeded expectations. The construction method is still the national standard today. In 1955 a tar mixing plant for the production of gravel and mixed macadam for road construction was set up on the Schönberg. In 1956, gravel was loaded onto the open Rhine for the first time . The freighter “Roveredo” was the first ship that was loaded and dispatched at the company's own loading point. A 1.5-kilometer-long canal, the “Vogel Canal”, was laid from the Ottenheim plant to the Rhine for loading by ship. In 1958 the gravel extraction point was opened in the Ettenheim district. In 1961 the Otto Vogel company built a gravel works in the Langenwinkel area.

1965-1971

The gravel works in Riegel was built in 1965 . In 1967, work began on the construction of a gravel works in Lahr-Kippenheimweiler and one year later an asphalt mixing plant was built on the site and again a year later a fully automatic concrete mixing plant was built. Basic materials and additives such as gravel, sand, cement and water are weighed and mixed together. The concrete is transported to the construction sites in ready-mixed concrete mixers. In 1968, the road construction branch Otto Vogel KG was founded in Renchen-Maiwald and one year later an asphalt mixing plant went into operation here. In 1970 a gravel extraction point was put into operation in Nonnenweier and in the same year a road construction branch was founded in Freiburg-Hochdorf. In 1970 there was a laboratory expansion in Kippenheimweiler for the determination of recipes and monitoring of the concrete preparation. In 1971, a construction machinery and motor vehicle workshop with a locksmith's shop, paint shop and brake tester was built in the Kippenheimweiler gravel works. The "heart" of the vehicle and machine park including the building yard is still located there.

1973-1980

In 1973 the Black Forest precast concrete plant was founded in the Kippenheimweiler gravel plant and a gravel extraction point for bulk gravel was opened in Köndringen . The asphalt mixing plant also started its work on the site of the Riegel gravel works. On August 21, 1974, the company's founder, Otto Vogel, left the company as a personally liable managing partner at the age of 72. In the same year, an IT system was used for the first time in the Vogel-Bau company and the Otto Vogel company acquired a stake in the Moräne company (Schuttern gravel works) with a siding to Deutsche Bahn . In 1974 the branch in Hochdorf, founded in 1970, was relocated to Bötzingen on the Kaiserstuhl . In 1976 the construction company Hermann Meurer KG in Gärtnerstrasse in Lahr was taken over by Otto Vogel KG and in the same year a gravel plant was opened in the Kenzingen district , in the “Haide” district. In 1977 a ready-mixed concrete mixing plant was built in the Riegel gravel works. 1982-1994

In 1982, SBL's production was relocated to a new, larger hall and the Söllingen gravel plant was taken over. In 1984 the shareholders Armin and Doris Kopf acquired the road construction company Erwin Köhler in Karlsruhe. 1985 the relocation of the bitumen mixing plant KHW to Ottenheim and construction of a milling crusher to recycle road rubble. 1986 The Meurer-Bau warehouse moved from Lahr to KHW and a warehouse was built in the building yard. In 1990, a recycling plant for processing construction rubble was built on the former Langenwinkel gravel works. In 1991 the partners founded the company Vogel-Bau Schüttgut-Recycling GmbH and in the same year the rubble recycling plant in Maiwald / Achern was founded with two other companies. Another rubble recycling plant also went into operation at the Riegel gravel works. In 1991 a new gravel and high-grade chippings plant with a ship loading facility was opened in Ottenheim. A year earlier, a locksmith's shop was built in the Ottenheim gravel works. In 1994 the demolition company Walther Keune-Bau (WKB) from Freiburg was incorporated. At the same time, shares in the Freiburger Erdaushub- und Bauschuttaufbereitungs GmbH (FEBA) could be acquired. In 1994 the Reichenbach porphyry factory of the Friedrich family was also integrated into the VB group of companies.

1996-2006

In 1996, the VBR set up a stationary floor washing center in the Kehler harbor. In 1997, the VBR set up a collection point on the Lahr airfield site for road debris made of tar, which is then reprocessed for road construction using a special mixing process. In 1998, the group acquired the Ohnemus gravel plant in Rust and resumed operations. VB-Recyclage Environment Strasbourg (VBRE) was also founded in France. In 1999 the group acquired the earthworks and demolition company Zlöbl in Eislingen near Stuttgart (from then on Vogel-Bau Eislingen (VBE)). In 2000 the Watter company from Lahr took over the residual gravel paving of the Ettenheim gravel works and in the same year the VBR set up a container service. In 2003 the Vogel-Bau Holding was founded. On April 1, 2006, the foundation stone of the building partner group in Romania (Ploiesti) was laid with various partners. The company began its activities in structural and turnkey construction. On June 30, 2006, Armin Kopf resigned from the management and Bernd Kopf becomes the sole managing partner. 2007-2018

Services and products

The companies of the Vogel-Bau Group are active in many construction areas. Road construction and civil engineering remain at the core to this day. As part of the infrastructure construction, Meurer-Bau from Lahr plans and builds bridges and other engineering structures. Vogel-Bau designs public spaces and outdoor facilities. Precast concrete parts are manufactured in three plants in Baden-Württemberg. The companies FBW and SBL are active in turnkey commercial construction. Walther-Keune Bau is a demolition company in Freiburg im Breisgau, and Wochner prefabricated houses builds and delivers them on the Zollernalb. A traditional business area of ​​the group is the raw material works on the Upper and Upper Rhine, where gravel and crushed stone in particular are produced.
