Volker Münz (born August 5, 1944 ) is a former German soccer player.

Career

In the summer of 1963, Münz joined Borussia Neunkirchen together with Heinz Simmet from SV Holz in the newly introduced second division of the Southwest Regional Football League . Under coach Horst Buhtz he made his debut on August 18, 1963 in a 2-2 home draw against VfR Kaiserslautern in the local Ellenfeld Stadium . He formed the right attacking side with winger Elmar May and Simmet stormed in the center-forward position in the World Cup system used at the time . At the end of the round, Neunkirchen celebrated the championship and moved into the Bundesliga promotion round. Münz had scored two goals in eight regional league appearances. In the decisive game on June 20, 1964 with the clear favorites FC Bayern Munich , Münz was used in the BL promotion round. The Saarlanders prevailed with 2-0 goals and surprisingly rose to the Bundesliga . The Borussia attack was against FC Bayern with Münz, Paul Pidancet , Karl Ringel , Achim Melcher and Günter Kuntz .

The newcomer secured relegation in 1964/65 when he reached 10th rank. Münz made his debut on September 19, 1964 in a 0-1 away defeat at Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga. His second appearance was on February 27, 1965 on the Betzenberg against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the 2-0 defeat he formed the attack of the black and white together with May, Günter Heiden , Horst Berg and Kuntz on half right. In the second Bundesliga year 1965/66 he was not used. After relegation, Neunkirchen again celebrated the Southwest Championship in the Regionalliga in 1966/67 and, after the successful promotion round of the Bundesliga, also returned to the Bundesliga. In the regional round, Münz only played the last competitive game on May 14, 1967 in a 3-2 home win as a defender against Saar 05 Saarbrücken. Peter Czernotzky and Gerd Regitz formed the master's defender pair.

Under coach Zeljko Cajkovski , Münz completed eleven other Bundesliga games in the 1967/68 season. Outstanding was the 1-1 home draw against FC Bayern Munich on matchday six, September 16, 1967. With Hugo Ulm , Wolfgang Gayer , Erich Hermesdorf and Hans Linsenmaier , he stormed the Borussia attack. On the last day of the match, May 25, 1968, he and Gerd Regitz formed the defenders in a 2-1 away defeat at SV Werder Bremen in front of goalkeeper Willi Ertz . As 17th Neunkirchen was relegated to the Regionalliga Südwest. In 1968/69, Münz played six more games in the Regionalliga Südwest and ended his high-class career in the summer of 1969 after a total of 13 Bundesliga and 15 (2 goals) regional league appearances.

At Borussia, he was in the Bundesliga team for three years . He played 13 games in which he played twelve from the start.
