Volker Schmidt (* 1976 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian author , director and actor .

Life

Volker Schmidt studied acting at the Vienna Conservatory . Engagements as an actor lead him to Vienna, Berlin and Graz, among others. In addition, he took part in several films (including Small Fish , Der Bockerer III ).

As a director he works u. a. at the Wiener Festwochen , at the Staatstheater Hannover , at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , at the Neuköllner Oper Berlin, at the Schauspielhaus Wien , at the Theater Phönix Linz, at the Stadttheater St. Gallen , at the Theater Magdeburg as well as in Copenhagen, Moscow, Timisoara, Skopje and Bhutan. He is the winner of the Nestroy Prize for komA (Best Off-Production 2008).

Schmidt has been writing plays, essays and stories since 2002. World premieres as a playwright, a. a. at Heidelberg Theater , the spectacle of Leipzig , at the State Theater in Hanover , at the Schauspielhaus Vienna , the Vienna Volkstheater , at the Neukölln Opera , at the Phoenix Theater , the Theater Drachengasse and at the Youth Theater . In 2007 he won the jury and audience award of the Heidelberg Stückemarkt for the play Die Mountainbiker and was thus invited to the Stückemarkt at the Berlin Theatertreffen . For his piece "schwarzweißlila" he received the Berlin Children's Theater Prize 2007. Schmidt u. a. to the Festival for Dramaturgy Santiago de Chile and NET Festival Moscow. His plays have been translated into 10 languages ​​so far.

With the independent theater group new space company he founded , he regularly realizes plays on stages and off-spaces in Vienna and Berlin.
