Volker Voigt (born March 6, 1949 in Sachsenbrunn ) is a former functionary of the GDR youth organization Free German Youth . He represented them from 1986 to 1990 as a member of the People's Chamber . In addition, he was Vice President from July 1989 and from March 1990 one of several managing directors of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation of the GDR.

Life

Voigt was born in March 1949 in Sachsenbrunn, Thuringia, as the son of a teacher. After attending the polytechnic high school , Voigt switched to an EOS , where he used the Abitur with vocational training . Voigt also learned the profession of cattle breeder during his time at EOS. Following this training, Voigt began studying at the PH Erfurt-Mühlhausen without the usual basic military service , where he completed a teaching degree from 1967 to 1971 and graduated as a qualified specialist teacher for German and Russian. During his studies, Voigt became a member of the SED after his one-year candidate period in 1968 at the age of 19 , while he was a member of the FDJ from 1963, as he had been since he was 14 .

After studying to be a teacher, Voigt was assigned a position at the 15th POS in Cottbus , where he taught until 1973. He then moved to the IfL Cottbus, where he held the position of FDJ secretary for an academic year. Subsequently, Voigt came to the FDJ district management Cottbus-Stadt and was initially employed there as an instructor until 1975. He then acted as 1st secretary of the FDJ district leadership Cotttus-Stadt until 1980. At the same time, he completed a distance learning course from 1975 to 1977 at the Cottbus district party school . In his function as Cottbus FDJ chief, Voigt also belonged to the secretariat of the SED district leadership Cottbus-Stadt. The GDR district town had a large proportion of young people for whom the FDJ in particular was the point of contact due to the surrounding lignite mining, large energy production companies, Cottbus as a large location for the GDR air forces and the ever-expanding Cottbus textile combine with 4000 mainly female employees. In order to do justice to this age structure, Voigt was elected for the first time as a simple member of the FDJ's Xth Parliament in June 1976 and was elected to the XI. Parliament reaffirmed in this function in 1981. At that time Voigt had already made a career leap within the FDJ. In 1980 he became 1st secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Cottbus and thus now also a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership in Cottbus. At the 6th meeting of the FDJ Central Council on December 10, 1982, Voigt experienced another career leap, he was appointed as Secretary of the Central Council and member of the FDJ Central Council office and was now full-time in Berlin in the closest leadership circle of the GDR youth organization former chairman Egon Krenz .

When Egon Krenz at the 7th meeting of the Central Committee of the SED , which took place on 24./24. November 1983 took place, was newly elected as a member of the Politburo of the SED , Voigt was part of the resulting personnel changes within the Central Council of the FDJ. At the 8th meeting of the FDJ Central Council, which followed on December 1, 1983 almost a week later, Krenz was officially released from his position as FDJ Chairman and the previous 2nd Secretary of the FDJ Central Council Eberhard Aurich as successor to Krenz elected FDJ chairman. Volker Voigt has now been entrusted with the vacant post of 2nd Secretary of the FDJ Central Council. The then 34-year-old was the second man in the youth organization, which had over two million members. Voigt's function was at the XI. Parliament of the FDJ reaffirmed in June 1985. Above all, many organizational activities fell into Voigt's area of responsibility. He was the head of the organizational staff of the respective Whitsun meetings of the FDJ, but also played a key role in the organization of the representative rock concerts that the FDJ organized, especially in the second half of the 1980s. Examples are the appearances of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen .

From 1986 Voigt also represented the FDJ in the People's Chamber and was a member of its presidium until November 13, 1989. At the 11th meeting of the FDJ Central Council on June 24, 1989, Voigt's FDJ career came to an end, although he still represented the youth organization in the People's Chamber. The 40-year-old was released from his position as 2nd Secretary of the FDJ Central Council.

Shortly thereafter, Voigt was officially introduced to his new role. At a meeting of the DTSB federal executive board at the end of June 1989, Voigt, who is experienced in organization, was elected secretary of the DTSB federal executive board and one of several vice-presidents as part of a staff rejuvenation aimed at by the new DTSB chairman Klaus Eichler . However, the political change in the GDR prevented Voigt from taking up his office properly. The DTSB umbrella organization threatened to break up under the increasing efforts of the respective sports associations. There was a consolidation on November 30, 1989, when the previous chairman Eichler and Voigt were confirmed in their offices by secret ballot. Voigt subsequently belonged to a labor secretariat, which was supposed to draw up a new statute for the DTSB. In addition, he was also involved in the drafting of a new sports law for the GDR, but this was no longer implemented. At the extraordinary gymnastics and sports day that took place in Berlin on March 4, 1990 , a new presidium was elected in addition to the new DTSB chairman Martin Kilian . In addition to the full-time Secretary General Jochen Grünwald, this also appointed five managing directors, including Volker Voigt. Voigt held this position until the DTSB was dissolved in December 1990. Then Voigt's track is lost.
