The bank was founded on July 2, 1906 by 15 master craftsmen and opened on October 16, 1906 at Forststraße 13 in Plauen. The first net profit for the partial year 1906 was 177.77 marks. On December 31, 1906, the bank had 70 members and a credit balance of 11,790.00 marks. On August 26, 1920, the building at Jößnitzer Strasse 5 was also acquired. In 1923 the first branch was opened at Herrenstrasse 12. During an American air raid in 1945, the rooms of the bank for crafts and trade were completely destroyed. Three years later, the bank building on Jößnitzer Strasse was rebuilt. In 1990 the commercial bank was renamed to Volksbank Plauen eG. There was a merger with Raiffeisenbank Auma-Zeulenroda eG in 1999. Four years later there was another merger with Raiffeisenbank Vogtland eG and Raiffeisenbank-Volksbank Greiz eG to form Volksbank Vogtland eG. A takeover of three branches of VR-Bank Fichtelgebirge eG took place on July 1st, 2008. The Klingenthal, Markneukirchen and Schöneck branches are now part of Volksbank Vogtland eG. In 2017 the branches Auma, Berga, Elsterberg, Klingenthal, Lengenfeld, Rodewisch, Schöneck and Triebes were closed. Since then, Volksbank Vogtland eG has operated 9 branches in the Saxon and Thuringian Vogtland.
