The Diocese of the North East Caribbean and Aruba (DIONECA, DNECA, dt. 'Northeast Caribbean and Aruba') is an Anglican diocese of the Church in the Province of the West Indies with its seat in Saint John's on Antigua . It includes 27 parishes in the areas of Anguilla , Antigua and Barbuda , Aruba , Dominica , Montserrat , Saba , Saint-Barthélemy , St Kitts and Nevis . Sint Eustatius and St. Martin / Sint Maarten in the Caribbean , i.e. the northern Lesser Antilles southeast of the archipelago around Puerto Rico, these are the Leeward Islands up to - excluding - Guadeloupe.
history
At the beginning of colonization (documented from 1632), the Caribbean belonged to the diocese of the Bishop of London . However, in 1813 he declared himself not responsible, and as a result, an independent diocese of Barbados was formed in 1824 . In 1842 the diocese was divided and the archdeacon of Antigua was appointed bishop of the North East Caribbean and Aruba. The independent West Indian Church has existed as a member of the Anglican Community since 1883 . In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the pastoral care area could also be extended to the non-English overseas territories.
In the Commonwealth of Nations, the role of the diocese was so important that in some of today's states the administrative structure is based on the parishes (former parish districts ).

The diocese's cathedral is the Cathedral and Parish Church of St. John the Divine in Saint John's. There is also the Episcopal Ordinariate ( Diocesan Office ) under an archdeacon with the cathedral chapter and the dean of the cathedral.
The bishop himself officiates at St. Mary's Rectory ( Wallblake House ) in The Valley on Anguilla, where he - unusual for a bishop - also works as a normal pastor.
Another archdeacon is located at St. George's Rectory at Basseterre on St. Kitts.
