Vorderglärnisch with Glarus sign, looking south |
The Vorderglärnisch is the defining mountain range of the Vorder Glarnerland and rises southwest of Glarus in Switzerland .
The Vorderglärnisch divides the main valley of the Glarnerland, which runs straight to the south, into the Klöntal , which runs north of the mountain towards the west, with the Klöntalersee towards the Pragelpass , as well as the Linthtal in the southeast towards the southwest to the Klausenpass , which are the only two navigable ways out of the Canton Glarus next to the northern exit of the valley. Behind the Vorderglärnisch the Glärnisch group swings up ( Vrenelisgärtli 2904 m above sea level ).
The Vorderglärnisch rises directly above the main town of Glarus and consists of limestone from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods .
Ascent
The normal ascent route from Klöntal via Hinter Saggberg and Schlattalpli is marked as a blue and white alpine hiking route (T4).
The ascent from Schwändi is not marked, but can be found with a map and description thanks to old trail markings for experienced mountain hikers (T5).
