Vorwärts Gronau (officially: Sportverein Vorwärts Gronau 09 eV ) is a sports club from Gronau in the Borken district . The first women's handball team took part in the German championship in 1937 .

history

The club was founded on August 3, 1909 as the Vorwärts Gronau football club with the club colors black and yellow. On September 8, 1922, the name was changed to Sportverein Vorwärts Gronau . Between August 18, 1933 and September 11, 1946, the club was called Spielverein Vorwärts Gronau for a few years . The renaming was preceded by the connection of FC Viktoria Gronau, founded in 1924 . The former football department merged with Arminia Gronau in 2011 to form Fortuna Gronau . In addition, the club once had a judo and volleyball department .

Handball

The handball department was founded on October 1, 1925 at the annual general meeting. Three years later, the club provided a women's team for the first time, which within a few years became one of the strongest teams in Westphalian field handball . In 1935 the team reached the final of the Westphalia Championship for the first time, which was lost 2: 3 against Sportfreunde 95 Dortmund . A year later, the team lost the Westphalia Cup final against Dortmund 4: 7. It was not until 1937 that the Gronau women secured the Westphalian championship title, but lost the round of 16 against Eimsbütteler TV with 0: 9 in the final round of the German championship .

After the end of the Second World War , it took until the 1970s before Vorwärts was again successful in sport. In 1972 he was promoted to the small field Oberliga Westfalen. From 1973 to 1975 the team in the hall also played in the Oberliga Westfalen. In the 2014/15 season, the women's team from Vorwärts Gronau played in the district league, while the men's team played in the district league.

Soccer

Forward Gronau was initially founded as a pure football club. In the 1920s, the team commuted between the second and third highest division. In 1933, the Gronau champions of the second-class first district class in North Westphalia . Due to the simultaneous introduction of the Gauliga Westfalen , this was only enough for qualification for the second-rate district class . During the Second World War , the footballers from Vorwärts formed a war game community with those of FC Epe and Concordia Gronau .

After the war, Vorwärts Gronau was assigned to the Münster district class and in 1946 moved to the Emsland district class . There the team reached third place in 1952. In the following years, the Gronauer did not get beyond mediocrity or relegation battle and in 1958 had to go to the district class. Four years later, the rise succeeded. In the following years Vorwärts Gronau commuted between district class and 1st district class. It only went up again in the 1980s. In 1984 he was promoted to the national league for the first time with coach Rudolf Perrevort , which was followed by direct relegation.

1986 succeeded under player-coach Koos de Wals again promotion to the national league. This time forward held for two years before it went back down to the district league. In 1996, the Gronauer relegated to the district league A and then commuted between the district leagues A and B. In 2006, they were promoted to the district league A, which was followed five years later by relegation. There, however, the forward footballers no longer competed because the football department merged with Arminia Gronau to form Fortuna Gronau .

Christina Tampier became German school master in 1975. In 2001 Annette Welz became German senior champion in doubles together with Dorothea Stock.

water sports

The water sports department WSVG09 was founded on January 31, 1976. The Drilandsee in Gronau serves as club territory. The association started with a sailing dinghy (Gronau 1) and has been growing steadily ever since. Regattas have been held on the Drilandsee regularly since 1984, both within the club and with friendly sailing clubs from the area. Rowers were also part of it from the start. Children from the age of 8 are introduced to water sports in the association and are further encouraged by various boat classes. In addition to promoting young people, training courses for official sport boat driving licenses are also offered. The continuous funding and further training are also reflected in the success story of the association.
