The ASG Vorwärts Meiningen was a sports association of the National People's Army of the GDR based in Meiningen . In the soccer section she was represented by the 1st team in the GDR league and the 2nd team in the Suhl regional soccer league (3rd league).

history

The ASG was founded in February 1962 as the successor to SG Dynamo Meiningen. It was based in the Rudi Arnstadt Stadium , today's Maßfelder Weg Stadium in the south of the city. After their promotion to the second-rate GDR league in 1965, the team was able to trigger a football euphoria through their style of play, which was unprecedented in the southern Thuringian region with the exception of Motor Steinach . Record attendance was achieved with 12,000 visitors in 1965 against Steinach and in 1966 against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . After a few successful series in the GDR league, the team was disbanded after the 1973/1974 season, which had already been restructured by the GDR border troops at the Meiningen site from 1971. The sports community was as ASG forward Plauen in Vogtland Plauen , the former site of the Military Academy of the border troops of the GDR "Rosa Luxembourg" , refounded. There the class could be held until the early 1980s, although the team could no longer match the popularity of the times in Meiningen.
