geography
Vuia Beg is located in Loch Roag Bay off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis . Located near the head of the bay at the entrance to the secondary bay Loch an Stroim , Vuia Beg is only separated from the coast of Lewis by 500 meters and 700 meters respectively in the south and north-west of Lewis. The surrounding islands include the larger sister island Vuia Mor in the northeast and Flodaigh in the west. The distances to them are at least 690 meters or 1.2 kilometers. On Lewis the village of Carishader is two kilometers away.
The island has a maximum length of 770 meters and a width of 500 meters. This results in an area of 35 hectares . Its highest point rises 70 meters above sea level.
history
The now uninhabited island was once inhabited. The remains of former dwellings testify to this, especially in the southern part of the island. as well as traces of agriculture.
A prehistoric settlement is suspected on the west side of the island. One cairn dates back to the Bronze Age . Another cairn is also said to be of great age, while another cairn is dated to the time of the settlement by Vikings .
