The spicy or flesh red disk ( Clitopilus geminus , syn .: Rhodocybe gemina ) is an edible type of mushroom from the family of red oat relatives (Entolomataceae). The genus Tellerlinge ( Rhodocybe ) was independent for a long time, but was united with the Räslingen ( Clitopilus ) due to molecular biological studies and the resulting kinship findings .

features

Macroscopic features

The fruit bodies are medium-sized and fleshy. The hat is strongly curved at first and later develops a flat, often somewhat depressed and often irregularly wavy shape. The matt, dry, smooth, slightly velvety felt-like surface of the hat has pale, ocher orange or brown tones with reddish aspects. The hat rim is curved, the hat skin is not removable. The crowded lamellas are wide and run down the handle and easily detach from the meat below. They are initially light beige to cream in color and flesh brownish as the spores mature. The blade edges are weakly notched. The whitish, fibrous stalk is fully fleshed when young, often tapering downwards and is 3–8 cm long and 1–2 cm thick. White mycelium strands are often found at the base of the stem . The meat ( trama ) is whitish to cream-colored, thick in the middle of the hat and has a pleasantly floury or spicy smell and tastes a bit bitter.

Microscopic features

The spores are flesh-colored to salmon-pink. They measure 5–7.5 × 3–5.5 micrometers and appear elliptical to angular, depending on the viewing angle.

Species delimitation

It would be dangerous to mix them up with the giant red blooming ( Entoloma sinuatum ), which is deadly in extreme cases . The also edible red chalk knight ( Lepista irina ) has a similar appearance and smell, but has narrow or slightly bulged lamellae.

Ecology and diffusion

It lives as a saprobiont in coniferous or, more rarely, deciduous forests, in meadows and parks or on roadsides.

Of the 20 species of the genus documented in Europe, the Spicy Tellerling is the most common and best known. It's widespread here, but not common. Its fruiting bodies appear individually or in rows or rings from July to October.

meaning

It is edible and a good edible mushroom .

Systematics and taxonomy

The official first description comes from the work “Traité des champignons” by Jean-Jacques Paulet , published in 1793 , who described it as “ Hypophyllum geminum ”.

Different subspecies and varieties were described on the basis of differences in lifestyle, stem color, smell and taste, which, however, are given little taxonomic value due to the existing transitional forms and unclear delimitation: the subspecies mauretanicus (Maire), the subspecies subvermicularis (Maire) and the variety leucopus ( Kühner & Romagnesi).
