WBSC Premier12 2015

The 2015 WBSC Premier 12 was the inaugural season of the WBSC Premier 12 , an international baseball tournament hosted by the World Baseball Softball Confederation . The tournament took place in Taiwan and Japan from November 8-21, 2015 . It was won by the South Korean national baseball team, which won the final against the USA 8-0.

The 12 national baseball teams with the highest number of points in the WBSC World Rankings qualified to participate . At the time of selection, these were the following:

Participating players

Since the U.S. Baseball Association's Major League Baseball refused to allow MLB players to join its 40-man roster , only up-and-coming MLB players like Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Brett Phillips took on former MLB players like Andruw Jones from the Texas Rangers and stars from other professional baseball leagues such as Japanese pitcher Shohei Ohtani and South Korean infielder Park Byung-ho took part in the tournament.

Prize money

The World Baseball Softball Confederation awarded a total of 3,800,000 million US dollars in prize money for the tournament:

  • Winner: US $ 1,000,000
  • Second place: US $ 600,000
  • Third place: US $ 400,000
  • Fourth place: US $ 300,000
  • 5th to 8th place: US $ 225,000 each
  • 9th to 12th place: US $ 150,000 each
