The steam locomotive PHILADELPHIA was a passenger locomotive of the Vienna – Raaber (Gloggnitzer) Eisenbahn (WRB). It was built in 1837 by the William Norris locomotive works in Philadelphia .

In contrast to the KFNB , which bought its first locomotives in England , Georg Simon Sina von Hodos sent Matthias Schönerer to the United States on behalf of WRB so that he could study the latest developments in locomotive construction. Schönerer took a liking to the simply constructed machines from the William Norris locomotive factory, which with their external cylinders did not require a cranked axle like the English machines from Robert Stephenson . He bought the no longer new "PHILADELPHIA", which was brought by ship to Trieste and by ox cart to Vienna , where it arrived in 1839.

The locomotive was used for study purposes and as a construction locomotive. It was also used in the construction of the Meidlinger cut. In her honor, the bridge that spans this incision is still called the “ Philadelphiabrücke ” today .

Since they were obviously not satisfied with their output (35 HP = 24 kW), in addition to the two larger Norris machines "LAXENBURG" and "BADEN" locomotives were ordered from Robert Stephenson in England .

The "PHILADELPHIA" came to the Southern State Railway (SStB) in 1853 and was retired in 1857.
