Vahid Hashemian [ væˈɦiːd hɔːʃemiˈɔːn ] ( Persian وحید هاشمیان, Transcription Wahid Haschemian ; * July 21, 1976 in Tehran , Iran ) is a former Iranian soccer player and current coach .

Player career

At the age of 16, Hashemian left his hometown club Fath Tehran and initially moved to the youth department of Pas Tehran . With this club he received a professional contract at the age of 21 and was successful in 26 games nine times in two years.

With the decision to move abroad, he came to Germany in 1999 for Bundesliga club Hamburger SV . On August 14, 1999 (1st matchday), he made his debut in a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich - in the 72nd minute for Anthony Yeboah . Used eleven times in his first season, he came only once to match practice in the following season. From 2001 to 2004 he was under contract with VfL Bochum, initially in the 2nd Bundesliga . With 21 appearances and eight goals, Hashemian contributed to promotion to the Bundesliga. In the following two seasons in the "upper house" he played almost all league games and was also quite successful with 10 and 16 goals. After his breakthrough under coach Peter Neururer , when VfL managed to repeat the best position with fifth place in the table and thus qualify for participation in the UEFA Cup competition, he moved to FC Bayern Munich for the 2004/05 season . There he canceled participation in the away game against Maccabi Tel Aviv because of alleged back pain. Iran had threatened him with legal consequences if he played in Israel. After a disappointing season for him with only nine league games - he did not get beyond reservist status - he decided to play for Hannover 96 . In three seasons he scored nine goals in 80 games. In 2008 he returned to VfL Bochum for free, where he received a two-year contract. On June 19, 2010 it was announced that Vahid Hashemian would not extend his contract with VfL Bochum, which ran until June 30 of that year.

In January 2011, Hashemian moved to the Iranian Pro League at Persepolis Tehran . In July 2012 he ended his active football career.

National team

For the Iranian national soccer team , Hashemian wore the national jersey 50 times, scoring 14 goals. In July 2009 he resigned from the national team.

Coaching career

Hashemian started his first coaching position in October 2012 at the German Oberligaclub SV Halstenbek-Rellingen , where he supported head coach Thomas Bliemeister on an equal footing. From July 2013 to December 2013, Hashemian coached the Hamburg upper league club Niendorfer TSV , but in December 2013 asked for the contract to be terminated in order to concentrate on football teacher training from March 2014. After passing the admission test, he took part in the DFB training to become a football teacher from June 2014 and successfully completed it in March 2015. From July 2017 he was active as an assistant trainer at the U-17 of Hamburger SV and from April 2018 also supported the U-21 of the club in the same function.

In May 2019, it was announced that Hashemian was returning to the Iranian national soccer team as Marc Wilmots' assistant coach .
