The electoral district Tyrol 16 was an electoral district for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian crown land of Tyrol . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election order, a total of 516 electoral districts were created, with one member being elected in each constituency with the exception of Galicia in the course of the Reichsrat election. The member of parliament has to prevail with an absolute majority in the first ballot or in a runoff election. The constituency Tyrol 16 comprised the judicial districts Brixen , Sterzing , Klausen , whereby the city of Brixen ( constituency Tyrol 4 ) was excluded from the electoral district.

In the 1907 Reichsrat election , Johann Frick ( Christian Social Party ) emerged victorious with around 83 percent in the first ballot, while the Conservative Party took second place with 15 percent. In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Frick's party colleague Franz Meixner was able to win with 81 percent, also in the first ballot; the conservative candidate this time achieved 14 percent. In the rural constituency, the Social Democrats never got more than a few percent of the vote.
