The electoral district of Tyrol 4 was a constituency for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian crown land of Tyrol . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election order, a total of 516 electoral districts were created, with one member being elected in each constituency with the exception of Galicia in the course of the Reichsrat election. The member of parliament has to prevail with an absolute majority in the first ballot or in a runoff election. The constituency Tyrol 4 comprised the cities, markets and communities of Lienz , Ampezzo , Bruneck , Brixen , Klausen , Innichen , Welsberg , Niederdorf , Toblach , Gossensaß , Sterzing , Gries , Zwölfmalgrei and Obermais .

In the 1907 Reichsrat election , Atanas von Guggenberg ( Christian Social Party ), the compromise candidate of the Christian Socialists and Conservatives, emerged victorious in the first ballot. Guggenberg was able to successfully defend his mandate in the Reichsrat election in 1911 , but this time was only able to prevail in the runoff election with a lead of around 30 votes against the German-freedom candidate Josef Rohracher . The social democratic candidates played a subordinate role in the constituency of Tyrol 4 and were only able to achieve respectable successes in the cities of Lienz and Zwölfmalgrei . The Conservatives could contrast their candidacy in 1911 only in Eisacktal reach as well as in suburbs of Bolzano and Merano larger number of votes.
