Waldemar Zimmermann

Waldemar Zimmermann (born August 3, 1876 in Plötzensee , Niederbarnim district ; † June 16, 1963 in Hamburg ) was a German economist and social politician .

Life

After a practical training in mechanical engineering , followed by a degree at the TH Charlottenburg , Waldemar Zimmermann devoted himself to studying law and political science with Gustav v. Schmoller , philosophy and geography at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , 1902 Dr. phil. after receiving his doctorate , he worked as an editor and co-editor of the weekly newspaper Soziale Praxis until 1912 .

In 1905 he went on a study trip to England and Scotland . In 1907 he completed his habilitation in Berlin for economics and social sciences. In 1913 he was appointed associate professor there. During the First World War , Zimmermann held a leading position on the War Committee for Consumer Interests , and in 1918 he was appointed advisor to the Economic Commission of the Prussian War Ministry .

In 1920 he went to the University of Hamburg as an associate professor for economics and social policy , which in 1925 appointed him full professor . In 1941 he retired . In addition, he temporarily worked as general secretary of the Society for Social Reform . With Ludwig Heyde he sat on the board of the Evangelical Social Congress . During the economic crisis , he advocated a policy of job creation, as it was later implemented by the National Socialists . For the ergonomic institute he worked as a consultant to the institute management.
