Valery Walentinowitsch Schmarow ( Russian Валерий Валентинович Шмаров ; born February 23, 1965 in Voronezh ) is a former Russian football player and current coach .

Career

Schmarow celebrated his greatest successes with Spartak Moscow . In 1987 and 1989 he was the Soviet champion , in 1990 he secured the title of top scorer.

In 1991 Schmarow moved to the Bundesliga for Karlsruher SC . There he drew attention to himself in the 1993/94 European Cup season when he advanced with the club to the semi-finals of the competition. In addition to victories against PSV Eindhoven , Girondins Bordeaux and Boavista Porto , it was in particular the 7-0 success in the second round second leg against Valencia CF that caused a sensation. In this game, which went down in history as a miracle from the wildlife park , Schmarow scored a goal and provided two assists .

In 1996 he returned to Spartak Moscow in Russia and won the Russian championship . In 2002 he ended his career.
