The Walgerbach is a 7.8 km long right tributary of the Lahn that runs in the municipalities of Lohra and Weimar in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district , Central Hesse .

geography

course

The Walgerbach rises in the eastern north of the natural area Salzbödetal , Gladenbacher Bergland , on the northern watershed to the Allna . Meanwhile, it runs for a larger part of its length in the Marburg Lahntalsenke , about 9 km southwest of the district town of Marburg .

The source of the Walgerbach is located at a height of about 295 m immediately south of the federal highway 255 , only a good 1 km west-northwest of the Lohra district of Willershausen . The named place is only about 100 m south parallel distance to the B 255, whereupon the brook leaves the municipality Lohra in a south-easterly direction and passes the places Kehna and Niederwalgern in the Weimar district , to after a good further south-east kilometer into the Par-Allna to flow.

River history

Until 2011, the Walgerbach was a nominal tributary of the Wenkbach , to which it flowed from the right only 200 m before its mouth - and that although it is not only the longer of the two arms, but also a larger catchment area (12.4 km² vs. 8.4 km²) drained. Since then, however, the formerly last 600 Wenkbach meters before the Walgerbach estuary have been part of the Par-Allna estuary of the Allna , which roughly maintains its direction even after the Walgerbach estuary and does not follow the former course of the Wenkbach.
