The Wenkbach is a 6.4 km long right tributary of the Lahn that runs entirely in the municipality of Weimar in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district , Central Hesse .

geography

course

The Wenkbach rises in the eastern north of the natural area Salzbödetal , Gladenbacher Bergland , on the northern watershed to the Allna . The greater part of its length, however, runs in the Marburg Lahntalsenke , about 8 km southwest of the district town of Marburg .

The source of the Wenkbach is located northwest of Oberweimar at a height of only about 267 m. After only a very short course in an easterly direction, the river turns south and passes Germershausen and Oberweimar, where it crosses the B 255 . After flowing through Wenkbach , it passes Niederwalgern to the east and flows into the Par-Allna northwest of Roth from the right .

Catchment area

The 8.4 km² catchment area of the Wenkbach lies in the natural areas of the Salzbödetal and Marburger Lahntalsenke and is drained from it via the Par-Allna, the Lahn and the Rhine to the North Sea.

It borders

  • in the north and east to that of the Lahn tributary Allna
  • and in the west to that of the Walgerbach , which flows into the Par-Allna.

The catchment area on the upper reaches is predominantly forested, otherwise arable land dominates.

The highest point is the 310  m above sea level. NHN high cutting in the northwest of the catchment area.

Tributaries

River history

Until 2011, the Wenkbach was 7.2 km long and the 7.8 km long Walgerbach , which flows into it from the right just 200 m before its mouth , is not only in length but also in terms of its catchment area (12.4 km² vs. 8.4 km²) was the actual main river of the river system, was considered its nominal tributary. Since then, its last 600 m before the Walgerbach estuary have been part of the Par-Allna estuary of the Allna , which roughly maintains its direction even after the Walgerbach estuary and does not follow the former course of the Wenkbach.
