Wallkofen is a district of Geiselhöring in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality. Wallkofen is about five kilometers northwest of Geiselhöring in the Isar-Inn hill country on the border with Upper Palatinate .

history

Wallkofen is documented for the first time in 1115. Richerius von Walcinchofen is named as the first of ten witnesses when Count Albert von Windberg and his wife Hadwiga placed the noble Engilrad with their six children under the protection of the Oberalteich monastery for the salvation of both souls before they set out on the campaign against the Frisians . The place name Walcinchoven is composed of the personal name Walcin and the basic word choven and means at the courtyards of the Walk / Walch. In 1334 the place name Walchofen is found in the documents of the Holy Cross Monastery in Regensburg .

The first officially attested lord of the court in Wallkofen was Dietrich Hofer von Lobenstein on Sünching in 1357 . The Hofmark Wallkofen from then on always remained in the possession of the respective lords of Sünching. In 1448 the Sünching line died out with Degenhart Hofer. His daughter Klara married the knight Ulrich Stauff von Erofels. Until 1573 the von Stauff were barons on Sünching and thus Hofmarksherren in Wallkofen. In 1573 Georg Ludwig von Seinsheim zu Hohenrottenheim, Seehaus bought the castle and Hofmark Sünching with villages and estates for 100,000 guilders from the heirs of the deceased Baron Joachim von Stauff and his son Degenhart zu Ernfels, including the Hofmark Wallkofen.

During the time of the Hofmark, the farmers were not the owners of the farms, but rather only tenants. The farms were owned by the landlords or owners. In Wallkofen these were the sovereigns, aristocrats, monasteries, churches, foundations. They received taxes from their subjects, mainly in the form of natural produce.

In 1802 patrimonial courts took the place of court marks . Wallkofen was now subordinate to the Sünching Patrimonial Court. At the end of March 1821, the Counts of Seinsheim in Sünching were given permission to set up a 1st class patrimonial court. First class patrimonial courts were very rarely awarded in Bavaria at that time. They included both high and low jurisdiction , while the usual second-class patrimonial courts only had notarial powers. In the revolutionary year of 1848, all patrimonial courts were dissolved. The over a thousand years of manorial rule was abolished, the farmers became owners of their farms and were now free to dispose of their property.

Wallkofen had been an independent municipality since December 11, 1848, which was subordinate to the Mallersdorf district court . The church has always belonged to the parish Aufhausen and was also cared for from there. In January 1886, the construction of a rectory began in Wallkofen and in the same year was given an exposition as a separate clergyman.

On May 1, 1978, the community of Wallkofen, which had belonged to the district of Mallersdorf , which was dissolved in 1972, became part of the community of Geiselhöring. The Wallkofen Expositur was incorporated into the Geiselhöring parish in 2001 in connection with the dissolution of the Atting deanery.
