history

The area around Pönning was already settled in the Neolithic . Barrows and numerous finds of stone tools and pottery shards nearby suggest this. The establishment of Pönning as a real -ing place falls in the time of the conquest by the Bavarians from around 550. The name is probably derived from Benno or Peno, a nobleman who founded this place.

The St. Emmeram monastery in Pönning was wealthy early on, as a document from 887 shows. The monasteries Obermünster , Oberaltaich and Mallersdorf also owned here, provided that Pönning is identical to the town of Peningoi . It is mentioned as Penningen in the first Duke Surbar .

At the turn of the 14th and 15th In the 19th century Ulrich the Devil obtained the rule of the court in Pönning. His son Peter Teufel sold the property in 1446 to Peter Regner, a citizen of Straubing . His children sold it in 1470 to the city of Straubing and to the All-Believer-Seelen-Zeche in Straubing. The court rights gradually shifted entirely to the city of Straubing. According to the court registers of the 16th century, the city of Straubing was Hofmarkherr zu Pönning. Two courts were directly involved in regional courts.

A church in Pönning consecrated to St. Martin is first mentioned in 1508 in the church register of the Diocese of Regensburg . In 1530 there was a fire disaster in which several farms burned down. In the year of conscription in 1752, Pönning consisted of 23 properties. At that time, in addition to the farmers and farmers, there was a bather, a blacksmith, a tailor, a weaver and a landlord in the village.

Pönning had had its own school building since at least 1802. The jurisdiction of the courts came provisionally to the Straubing District Court in 1808 and finally in 1810. The Pönning tax district was also formed in 1808 , from which the Pönning community in the Straubing district court emerged. It later belonged to the Straubing district and in 1952 consisted of the districts of Pönning, Antenring, Kleinpönning and Gunting. In 1978 it was incorporated into the town of Geiselhöring as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

Pönning has been a branch office since 1950 , and the position has not been filled since 1970 due to a lack of priests. The parish service is provided by the parish of Perkam . Pönning belongs to the parish association Feldkirchen-Perkam-Pönning in the diocese of Regensburg .

On July 1, 2012, the place celebrated the 250th consecration day of the new St. Martin Church. On 25/26 August 2012 the Pönning Medieval Festival took place on the occasion of the first documentary mention from the year 887.
