Walter "Walt" Brown (born December 30, 1911 in Springfield , Arkansas USA , † July 29, 1951 in Williams Grove , Pennsylvania , USA) was an American racing driver .

Career

Brown competed in over 40 Champ Car races between 1936 and 1951 , with his only victory in Langhorne in 1948 .

He competed three times in the Indianapolis 500 miles . He achieved his best result in 1947 as seventh. In 1949 he was not able to qualify originally, but took over from Emil Andres after 19 laps and brought the Kurtis Kraft 2000- Offenhauser to the finish line in ninth place. So he had covered over 90% of the distance. In 1950 he reached 19th place on the same make, ten laps behind the winner, Johnnie Parsons . The following year he competed again with a Kurtis Kraft 2000-Offenhauser. Starting the race from 13th on the grid, he retired on the 55th lap with damage to the magneto. Since the race from 1950 to 1960 was classified as a Formula 1 world championship race , there are also two Grand Prix starts for him.

Brown had a fatal accident in training for a championship run at Williams Grove Speedway in 1951 .
