Walter Carganico
Walter Carganico (born July 11, 1913 in Breslau ; † December 23, 2005 in Brühl / Rhineland) was a German officer in the Wehrmacht in World War II and later major general in the Bundeswehr .
Life
Walter Carganico was born in 1913 as an officer's son in Breslau . He attended a secondary school and graduated from high school in 1931 . Then he decided to take up the officer career. He joined the 8th Artillery Regiment as a flag junior and was promoted to lieutenant in the 7th Cavalry Regiment in 1934 . He was then a platoon leader , communications officer and company commander in the 2nd Panzer Regiment.
After various posts at the front as a company commander, he attended the War Academy in Berlin and held a number of posts in the General Staff on the Eastern and Western Fronts.
After the war he learned the carpentry trade and passed the journeyman's examination. He was the head of a wood processing company and head of interior design at a non-profit construction company.
In 1956 he joined the German Armed Forces and was head of inspections and tactics teacher at Combat Troop School II in Munster. In 1959 he became a training officer in the army command staff . On July 9, 1962, he took command of 8th Panzer Brigade in Lüneburg . On June 11, 1964, he was promoted to brigadier general. Since October 15, 1964, Carganico served as deputy general of the combat troops and at the same time as stage manager of the tank troops in the army troop office .
Carganico commanded the 3rd Panzer Division of the German Armed Forces from October 1, 1967 to September 30, 1970 .
