Life

Dörr was born as the second son of the Heilbronn merchant Karl Dörr and his wife Sofie. Böhringer born. He grew up in Heilbronn and attended elementary school there from 1932 , and the upper secondary school there from 1936 .

In 1943 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and served as a soldier in France , Norway , Denmark and most recently in the Czech Republic during World War II . He experienced the end of the war in May 1945 in Prague . He managed to flee to Germany, and in July 1945 he returned to his destroyed hometown, where he helped rebuild his parents' house.

In the winter semester 1945/1946 he began studying electrical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart , which he completed as a graduate engineer . Immediately after the end of his studies, he began at the Stuttgart elevator factory Steel (now ThyssenKrupp Elevator in Neuhausen auf den Fildern to work, where he developed elevators and elevator motors). His work on elevator motors brought him in connection with Loher GmbH (today Siemens ) in Ruhstorf an der Rott , to which he moved in 1953. He continued to work there in the elevator motors division. In 1956 he submitted his dissertation on the drive of the modern traction sheave elevator to the TH Stuttgart, with which he received a Dr.-Ing. received his doctorate.

He then switched to the Heilbronn State Engineering School , which was newly founded in 1961 , from which the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences emerged in 1971 , today's Heilbronn University . Dörr was professor there and from 1977 to 1989 rector of the college. In his twelve-year tenure as rector, Dörr campaigned for an extension and for new departments such as tourism , electronics and viticulture , which resulted in the number of students at the former engineering school tripling during this time and ensuring the university's future existence.

After retiring, Dörr was a member of the Heilbronn municipal council for the Free Voters from 1989 to 1995 , and from 1988 to 2005 he was the district chairman of the Europa-Union Deutschland as well as the partnership officer of the Heilbronn Lions Club .
