Walter Kubiczeck

Walter Kubiczeck (born October 7, 1931 in Berlin ; † January 21, 2009 there ) was a German composer , arranger and band leader .

Life

At the age of eight he received his first piano lessons from GMD Otto Fielitz. As a 17-year-old, he played in several big bands and combos . After graduating from high school, Walter Kubiczeck studied German at the Humboldt University in Berlin and passed his state examination in 1954 . From 1954 to 1959 he worked in Berlin as a teacher and at the same time in building up the junior studio at AMIGA , which he directed from 1956 to 1958. In 1958 he became head of the dance music editorial team at Radio GDR and was responsible, among other things, for the Schlagerrevue , which soon developed into one of the most important hit parades of GDR radio .

From 1963 Kubiczeck worked as a freelance composer, arranger and orchestra conductor. He produced a large number of titles by himself and other authors for radio, AMIGA and television in the GDR . Since 1971 Walter Kubiczeck has also been writing film music . Well-known songs include the Pole-Poppenspäler-Ballade (A car drove through the country) and What do you think of the tango? as well as the soundtrack for the television series The invisible visor . He also composed for GDR films such as Der Lude from 1984 and Heiße Ware in Berlin . In 1965 he founded the Walter Kubiczeck studio orchestra .

In 1964 he became a member of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR. In 1974 the Minister for Culture of the GDR appointed him deputy general director of the "Committee for Entertainment Art". From 1983 to 1989 he was elected honorary vice-chairman of the committee.

Kubiczeck last lived in Berlin-Mitte . He died in a Berlin hospital at the age of 77.
