Walter Ricciardi

Walter Ricciardi (* 17th April 1959 in Naples as Gualtiero Ricciardi ) is an Italian doctor and former actor .

Career

Walter Ricciardi began his career as a child actor in the late 1960s. When the decision was made to shoot the television series I ragazzi di padre Tobia in Naples, his parents supported him by letting him take part in the casting at the age of nine. He was engaged for the series and played from 1968 to 1970 in twelve episodes one of the children of Padre Tobia, played by Silvano Tranquilli . After a break of several years and the decision to study medicine, Ricciardi financed his studies by appearing as an actor in 16 other film and television productions until 1988. The Renzi cabinet appointed him Commissioner of the Istituto superiore di sanità (ISS) in 2014, and he became President of the ISS in September 2015. He resigned from this post at the end of 2018. He criticized Interior Minister Matteo Salvini (Lega Nord); he had flatly criticized vaccinations and often claimed that immigrants would bring in diseases. Environment Minister Sergio Costa had criticized modern waste incineration plants; the possibilities for the disposal of sludge in agriculture had been expanded. There was no cooperation between the ISS and the Conte I cabinet (June 1, 2018 to September 5, 2019) in 2018.

Private

In 2017 Riccardi was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic as Commander .

Riccardi is fluent in English, German, Spanish and French.
