Walter Schmidt (lawyer)

Walter (Karl Friedrich Theodor) Schmidt (born November 20, 1858 in Parchim , † July 25, 1925 in Rostock ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life and work

Walter Schmidt was the younger son of the superintendent Gustav Schmidt (1812–1863) and his wife Hermine Friederike Elisabeth, nee. Walter (1822–1913) was born in Parchim. After attending school, he took up law studies at the University of Rostock , which he finished with the first state examination in 1882 and the second in 1885. He then entered the judicial service. He worked as a local attorney in Wismar from 1886 and was active from 1888 to 1893 as a court assessor in Kröpelin and as a local judge in Wittenburg . From 1893 to 1898 he worked as a public prosecutor at the Rostock regional court , from 1898 to 1900 as a regional judge at the Güstrow regional court , from 1900 to 1905 as the first public prosecutor in Rostock and from 1905 to 1909 as the first public prosecutor in Güstrow. From 1909 to 1924 he was a senior judge at the Rostock Higher Regional Court . In 1924/25 he acted as President of the Rostock Higher Regional Court. Walter Schmidt died on July 25, 1925 in Rostock.

Walter Schmidt was married to Ada Sharpin . The painter Luise Schmidt was his older sister.

politics

Schmidt did not belong to any party and served from July 28, 1920 to January 12, 1921 as Minister of State of Justice in the government of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin led by Prime Minister Hermann Reincke-Bloch .
