Walter Stiebeler (born November 3, 1919 in Hamburg ; † September 15, 2007 there ) was a German judge .

Life

Stiebeler returned to work and military service in World War II with four wounds in 1945 to Hamburg and began at the University of Hamburg at the age of nearly 26 years with a degree in jurisprudence . In 1950 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The relationship between the litigation status and factual legitimation to Dr. iur. utr. He joined the Hamburg judicial service in 1952 and became a judge. After a few weeks he moved to the “Senate Commission for the Administration of Justice”, the forerunner of the judicial authority. There he rose to senior officer over the course of a decade.

In 1969, Stiebeler was appointed presiding judge at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court and presiding judge at the Hamburg Higher Administrative Court. From 1969 to 1984 he held the presidency of the Hamburg Constitutional Court . He held the presidency of the Hamburg Constitutional Court, the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court and the Hamburg Higher Administrative Court. He was probably the last so-called triple president.

In addition, Stiebeler held the office of President of the Joint Examination Office of the states of Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein as well as the President of the General Examination Office for the one-stage legal training in Hamburg. It is a reform of legal training that Stiebeler played a key role in designing and implementing.

Stiebeler also taught at the University of Hamburg in the area of ​​civil law. In 1983 he was awarded the title of professor and taught well into old age. He was also active in the judicial review system. In 1987 he was awarded the Emil von Sauer Prize .
