Walter Thürmer (politician)

Walter Thürmer (* 27. January 1896 in Dresden , † 23. February 1971 ) was a German official of the GDR - Block Party LDPD and professor . He was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health in Saxony as well as state chairman of the LDP Saxony.

Thürmer, son of a teacher , graduated from the König-Georg-Gymnasium in Dresden in 1914 and did military service in the First World War from 1914 . From 1919 to 1922 he studied mathematics , physics and economics at the Technical University of Dresden . From 1922 he was a student trainee at the Dresden Kreuzschule, where he passed the examination for a higher teaching post. From 1922 he worked as a teacher at the Hiß preparatory institute in Dresden. In 1922/1923 he completed an internship at the Bondi & Maron bank in Dresden. In 1923 he graduated as Dr. rer. techn. Thürmer was an intern at Emil Schütz in Wesermünde in 1923/1924 . From 1924 to 1948 he was an employee, later co-owner and manager of the coffee roasting and coffee replacement factory Max Thürmer in Dresden and manager of the food wholesaler Max Knauthe and the cigar wholesaler and retailer Schramm and Echtermayer in Dresden. From 1926 to 1933 he was a member of the German People's Party (DVP) and from 1929 to 1933 city ​​councilor for the DVP in Dresden.

After the Second World War he co-founded the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDP, later LDPD) in Dresden. Thürmer was LDP district chairman in Dresden-Stadt from 1945 to 1949 and treasurer of the LDP regional association of Saxony from 1945 to 1947 . From 1946 to 1948 he was a city councilor in Dresden, 1948/1949 mayor and department head for economy and transport in Dresden. From 1948 until his death he was a member of the People's Council or the People's Chamber . From 1949 to 1951 he was chairman of the LDP regional association of Saxony and from 1949 to 1952 and from 1955 to 1963 he was a member of the LDPD central board, and in 1958/1959 also its political committee. From May 1950 to September 1951 he was Minister for Health of the State of Saxony and Deputy Prime Minister. From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament . From 1950 to 1954 he was a member of the National Council of the National Front and from 1952 a member of the Dresden District Board of the National Front and from 1954 a member of the District Peace Council. From 1962 Thürmer was also a member of the Presidium of the German-French Society of the GDR.

From 1952 he worked as a research assistant at the TH Dresden. 1966/1967 he was professor and head of the Dresden branch of the main department of distance and evening studies at the Technical University of Dresden . Thürmer died in Dresden in 1971 and was buried in the Tolkewitz urn grove .
