Walther Rathenau Institute
The Walther Rathenau Institute, Foundation for International Politics is a non-partisan, non-profit foundation based in Berlin . It is named after Walther Rathenau , a foreign minister during the Weimar Republic . Although the institute is formally non-partisan, it is indirectly related to the FDP through the founders and the current composition of the board .
Foundation purpose
The foundation is intended to remember the life and work of the industrialist, essayist and foreign politician Walther Rathenau and to make his work and his advocacy for basic democratic values, international understanding and tolerance known to a wider public again. To this end, the foundation promotes political education in the spirit of Walther Rathenau, in particular through contributions and research projects in the field of foreign policy. In addition, foreign policy studies on current issues affecting Germany are to be carried out at irregular intervals, which reflect the liberal spirit of Walther Rathenau.
Walther Rathenau Prize
Every year the institute awards the Walther Rathenau Prize, which recognizes an outstanding life's work in foreign policy. The prize in the form of a gold medal with a portrait of Rathenau will be awarded at a festive event in Berlin.
